The Bible reveals that the Antichrist will seek to unite the world, not only politically and economically, but also religiously. His goal is to create a single, unified religion that aligns with his agenda and ultimately leads humanity away from the true worship of God. This one-world religion will not be based on truth or genuine spirituality; instead, it will be a deceptive and coercive system designed to shift devotion away from God and onto the Antichrist himself. He will present this religion as inclusive and universal, appealing to people of all faiths and cultures, while subtly leading them into idolatry and blasphemy.
Revelation 13:4 illustrates the worship of the Antichrist: “So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, ‘Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?’” The people’s worship of the beast, or the Antichrist, is a direct result of his manipulation and deception. By exalting himself as an unrivaled leader, he draws the world into a false system of worship that glorifies him and the power behind him—Satan.
2 Thessalonians 2:4 further describes the Antichrist’s self-exaltation: “Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The Antichrist’s ambition is not just to be a political leader but to be revered as a god. He seeks to unify religious devotion under his authority, positioning himself as the object of worship and the focus of a global religious movement.
The Antichrist will not carry out this plan alone. The Bible introduces another figure, the False Prophet, who will work alongside the Antichrist to establish and promote this one-world religion. The False Prophet acts as a spiritual leader, using his influence to validate the Antichrist’s claims and to lead people into worshiping him. He will perform signs and wonders to convince the masses of the Antichrist’s divinity, creating a powerful and deceptive religious experience that captivates the world.
Revelation 13:11-12 describes the False Prophet’s role: “Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.” The False Prophet appears gentle and lamb-like, symbolizing a false sense of peace and spirituality. However, his true nature is revealed in his words, which reflect the deceptive voice of the dragon—Satan. He uses his authority to direct worship toward the Antichrist, effectively establishing a unified, false religion.
Matthew 24:24 warns of the deceptive signs performed by these figures: “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” The False Prophet’s signs and wonders will be so convincing that even believers might be tempted to follow. This highlights the powerful spiritual deception that will accompany the rise of the one-world religion, making discernment essential for those who seek to remain faithful to God.
A key element of the Antichrist’s religious agenda will be the establishment of the “image of the beast.” This image, likely some form of idol or representation, will be central to the new form of worship demanded by the Antichrist and the False Prophet. The Bible indicates that people will be forced to worship this image, and those who refuse will face persecution and death. This enforced worship will be a public demonstration of loyalty to the Antichrist, solidifying his control over the spiritual lives of the people.
Revelation 13:14-15 describes the creation and power of this image: “And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.” The image of the beast is more than a simple statue; it appears to have supernatural abilities, including the power to speak. This miraculous appearance will deceive many into believing that the Antichrist is divine, leading them into idolatrous worship.
Daniel 3:5-6 provides a foreshadowing of this forced worship: “That at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up; and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.” Just as Nebuchadnezzar demanded worship of his golden image under threat of death, the Antichrist will use fear and coercion to enforce the worship of his image, creating a system where disobedience is met with severe consequences.
The Antichrist’s unified religion will be presented as one of tolerance, inclusivity, and universal acceptance. He will capitalize on the world’s desire for peace and harmony, positioning this new faith as a solution to religious conflict and division. The one-world religion will likely blend elements from various belief systems, creating a syncretistic faith that appeals to a broad audience. However, beneath this surface of inclusivity lies a dark agenda: the complete eradication of true Christian worship and the establishment of a counterfeit spirituality that exalts the Antichrist above all.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 warns of this trend: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” The Antichrist’s religion will cater to those who reject the truth of the Gospel. It will be a faith built on fables and falsehoods, designed to satisfy the desires of people who prefer a comfortable and non-confrontational spirituality.
Jeremiah 6:14 highlights the superficial nature of this peace: “They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ when there is no peace.” The one-world religion will offer a false sense of peace, claiming to heal divisions while masking the underlying rebellion against God. It will be a shallow peace, devoid of the true reconciliation that comes only through Jesus Christ.
The Bible makes it clear that those who choose to participate in the Antichrist’s unified religion are rejecting the truth of God and aligning themselves with the forces of darkness. By accepting the worship of the beast and his image, they are making a choice that has eternal consequences. This one-world religion is the final manifestation of humanity’s rebellion against God, and those who embrace it will face God’s judgment.
Revelation 14:9-11 warns of the fate of those who worship the beast: “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation.” The choice to worship the Antichrist is a choice to reject God. The judgment for this decision is severe and eternal, underscoring the seriousness of the deception that will be at work in the end times.
John 4:23-24 calls for true worship: “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” The contrast between the one-world religion and true worship is stark. While the Antichrist’s religion is built on deception and falsehood, true worship is founded on the Spirit and the truth of God’s Word.
The Antichrist’s attempt to unite the world under one false religion is a central part of his strategy to deceive humanity and lead people away from God. This counterfeit faith may appear inclusive and peaceful, but it is a trap designed to draw people into idolatry and rebellion. As believers, we must be vigilant, discerning the truth from lies, and holding fast to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. True peace and unity are found only in Him, and only by worshiping the true God in spirit and truth can we avoid the deceptions of the last days. Let us remain anchored in Scripture, prepared to stand firm against the false promises of the Antichrist and ready to proclaim the true hope found in Christ alone.
